Ok, here goes...

I have a 2.5 gig mac IDE HD from a friend who would like files from it. I
have windows machines with XP installed. The mac i have it too old to to
read a IDE drive. (I know the easiest solution is to find a newer Mac with
IDE interface and copy files, and I will try obtain the machine for the job,
but one is not readily available to me. Also, i'm a tinkerer and like to
find solutions within my means). Connecting the HD to my PC the bios
recognizes it, but obviously the system doesn't. That precludes
applications like Executor HFVExplorer from seeing the disk and therefor
transfering the files (it works fine for floppies). Anyway, if any of you
gurus or just regular people have any ideas, or have come accross this
situation and have a solution I would appreciate hearing about it. BTW, I
noticed an application called MacOpener. I don't know if it would work, but
this is a one time deal and I won't spend the big bucks. TIA.

Install Linux on a partition of your Windows box and mount the Mac drive
using that. IIRC, Linux knows HFS. I don't know if it knows HFS+,
though.

Sheesh. Do I feel silly. I found a demo of MacOpener and everything worked
flawlessly.
Thanks Howard for your response. (a real tinkerers idea!). Sounds like it
had potential.
